Oil Late Model Dirt Series 'Fourth of July' $10,000-to-win event
scheduled Saturday, July 4 at Volunteer Speedway
BULLS GAP, Tenn. — The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt
Series will be in action at Volunteer Speedway over the Independence Day
holiday weekend on Saturday, July 4 for a big $10,000-to-win show with
many of the top names in dirt late model racing expected to be present.
Besides the Lucas Oil Super Late Models, also racing will be the Fastrak
Racing Series-sanctioned "Courtesy Chevrolet" Pro Late Models and
"McDonald's" Hobby Stocks.
Headlining the list of drivers expected to be in action is current Lucas
Oil Late Model Dirt Series points leader Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg,
Tenn.; Dale McDowell of Chickamuaga, Ga.; Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn.;
Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla. (2005, '06, '07 and '08 Lucas Oil
Late Model Dirt Series national champion, driving for NASCAR Sprint Cup
Series competitor Bobby Labonte); Ray Cook of Brasstown, N.C.; Don
O'Neal of Martinsville, Ind.; Steve Casebolt of Richmond, Ind.; Brad
Neat of Dunnville, Ky.; Josh McGuire of Grayson, Ky.; John Blankenship
of Williamson, W.Va.; Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, Wis.; Eric Jacobsen of

Racers' from around the East Tennessee region looking to take on the
out-of-state invaders on Fourth of July include four-time (1997, 1998,
2000 and 2005) Volunteer Speedway track champion Vic Hill of Morristown,
Greeneville's Jeff Maupin (2008 Super Late Model track champion), Shanon
Buckingham of Morristown, Bristol's Kerry Jones, Randy Weaver of
Crossville, Johnson City's Dale Ball, Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville,
Knoxville's Rick Rogers, Tommy Kerr of Maryville, Sevierville's Chad
Ogle, Joe Armes of Petros, Knoxville's Mark Douglas, Mark Vineyard of
Powell, Mount Carmel's Shon Flanary, Michael Smith of Rogersville,
Powell's Steve Smith, Anthony White of Clinton, Jonesborough's Bobby
Mays, Jensen Ford of Piney Flats, Knoxville's Herman Goddard, Bryan
Hendrix of Knoxville, Englewood's Dusty Carver, along with several

Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series heat races, last chance B-mains and the
$10,000-to-win 60 lap feature highlight the Saturday, July 4 racing
program, along with action in "Courtesy Chevrolet" Pro Late Model and
"McDonald's" Hobby Stock divisions.
Adult grandstand admission $25, youth (ages 10-14) $5, with kids
9-and-under admitted free in the grandstands when accompanied by an
adult. Backside tier-parking and pit passes $35 per person regardless of
age.
The pit gate will open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand gate opens at 5 p.m.
Hotlaps are tentatively scheduled to begin around 7:45 p.m. (depending
on how hot the weather is and with the sun baking down on the track,
hotlaps may begin a little later than 7:45 p.m.), to be followed by
qualifying and then racing action.
With it being the Fourth of July, a huge fireworks show will illuminate
the nighttime skies over "The Gap."
***NOTE: With a large crowd expected and all available seating space
needed for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event, no lawn chairs
will be permitted in the grandstands. Only stadium seat-type cushions
will be allowed. Also, no coolers or outside food allowed to be brought
into the front straightaway (main) grandstands!
Directions to Volunteer Speedway: South on Interstate 81 from
Tennessee/Virginia state lines, take Exit 23 (Bulls Gap/Greeneville),
then turn right onto Hwy. 11-E at bottom of the exit ramp. Look for
track entrance approximately 200 yards on left.
North on Interstate 81 from I-81/I-40 split (East of Knoxville, TN),
take Exit 23, then turn left onto Hwy. 11-E at bottom of the exit ramp.
Continue underneath the interstate over-pass and track entrance
approximately 300 yards ahead on left.
