Rookie Dillon Oliver Scores First Career Late Model Victory at the Motorplex
NASHVILLE, TN – As if leading the points standings at the historic Music City Motorplex in the NASCAR Late Model division wasn’t enough for eighteen year old rookie Dillon Oliver, he also scored his first career Late Model victory at the Motorplex Saturday May 5 in front of a great crowd of fans.
Oliver started along side Skip McCord for the drop of the fifty lap NASCAR Late Model feature and immediately began to pull away from the field. Oliver pulled out to a two second lead by lap four with McCord, Mark Day, Daniel Pope and Michael House battling for second on back. McCord’s strong run ended on lap twenty-nine when his engine went up in smoke bringing out the only caution of the event. On the restart, Oliver remained out front with Day on his rear bumper. Johnson and Montgomery battled door to door during the final laps for the fifth position. Oliver held off Day to score his first Late Model victory at the Motorplex followed Day, Pope, House and Johnson.
Kyle Fletcher and Bobby Buttrey brought the NASCAR Super Trucks down for the start of the forty lap feature and remained side by side for nearly eight laps, as did the entire field. Behind Fletcher and Buttrey, Daniel Victory and Daniel Bolden ran door to door for the third and forth positions. Buttrey finally pulled ahead of Fletcher on lap eight, but Fletcher came right back after Buttrey the following lap. Victory went three wide with Buttrey and Fletcher when Fletcher’s truck got loose entering turn one. Victory took over the top spot with Fletcher, Buttrey, Blake Williams and Bolden close behind. The first caution of the night fell on lap sixteen when Fletcher’s truck spun exiting turn four. Amazingly everyone avoided the spinning truck and Fletcher kept his truck out of the wall. Victory remained out front on the restart, but Bolden immediately began challenging him for the lead. Bolden took over the position on lap twenty-five. Buttrey and Larry Ryman got together exiting turn four on lap thirty-three sending Ryman hard into the inside wall bringing out the final caution of the night. Bolden held off the field on the restart and in the closing laps to pick up his first career Super Truck victory. Williams finished second followed by Victory, Steven Meador and Terry Hayes.
Wayne White continued
his dominance in the NASCAR Grand Nationals division by leading the way
from the drop of the green flag until the drop of the checkered flag.
White started the race from the pole position with Eddie Taylor and
Lee Goddard battling side by side for the second spot.
Howard Tucker and Jeffrey Belt traded the fourth position back and forth
for several laps. John Leeland brought out the only
caution of the event when his car spun in turn one after him and Michael
Crow got together. White,
Mark Ryman and Matt
Barnes brought the Thunderstox down to the green flag.
Dale Travis made his way to the lead on lap three with Ryman, Barnes, CJ
Adams and Dale Travis all close behind. Ricky Groves
spun in turn four collecting Arthur Choate and Joshua Hood bringing out
the caution. Jeremy Newman made his way to the front
on lap seven. A late race caution involving
Dylan Presnell held off a hard charging Brandon Summers to pick up his first win on his first appearance at the Motorplex in 2008 in the Legend Semi Pro division. Summers finished second followed by Michael Bolden, Travis Adcox and Harry Harvey. Kevin Rollins picked up his second win of 2008 in the Legend Pro division. Tyler Slayden finished second, James Fowlkes third, Rob Sanders forth and Josh Berry fifth. Kenny Summers picked up the win in the Legend Master’s division.
Timothy Lunn scored his first win in the Dwarf cars followed by David Ring, Greg Gresham, Ricky McIllwain and Allen Ring.
